Wow, the 1001 Days are flying by, and I still have quite a few items left on the list. I still need to edit out some of the items that no longer interest me, but I wanted to do a quick update. It looks like I now have less than a year left in my list, so I really need to get to work. BTW, click on each picture for the full size version.

Start Date: Thursday, January 24, 2008
Goal Date: Thursday, October 21, 2010
Items Complete to Date: 39
Italics = Currently working / already started
Strike = Completed
The Complete List

6. See a play - I love seeing plays but not always so much with the musicals, but when I heard that Wicked was coming to Nashville I knew I wanted to see it, since I had read the book a few years ago. David's shares my lack of interest in musicals, but he thought Wicked looked interesting, too. I'm so glad that we went, because it was even better than I thought it would be. There was SO MUCH left out of the play in comparison to the book, and there were also some very subtle differences in the storyline, but it really was a great experience.

27. Watch at least 101 movies that I have never seen (79/101) - I'm up to 79 movies in my list. I'll post the entire list once I've seen all 101.

34. Buy 50 pairs of socks (35/50) - 12 more pairs of socks to add to my collection. Only 15 more to go to mark this off my list.

35. Read at least 25 books (20/25) - Almost there! Just 5 more to go, and I will post the entire list.

38. Rent a cabin with the girls - While technically I had my high school girl friends in mind when I added this to the list, my weekend cabin retreat with the girls ended up being with a different group. Back in August, my mom and friends rented a cabin for the weekend so that we all could quilt or work on our craft hobbies. Our cabin was at beautiful Center Hill, and I think we all got a lot accomplished that weekend!

97. Visit an orchard - I honestly can't remember why I added this to the list. I guess because it's something that I have never done, even though there's several orchards in the Nashville area. I figured I would end up visiting the orchard in Mt. Juliet, but because of other plans in the day, David and I ended up visiting Morning Glory Orchard in Nolensville. While we didn't get to pick the apples, they still let us take a few pictures in the orchard, and we were able to buy their products in the store they have. We also visited a dairy that day, too, but that's not on the list :) And because I can't decide on just one picture to post here, I'm posting two. And if two pictures aren't enough, I have a whole set of pictures from our Farm Day
Adventures.

So 39 Complete and still several others In Progress!

Annnnnd....even though I outed myself on Twitter and Facebook earlier for posting without proofreading my earlier Quilting Blog post, I am not proof reading this one now because I am just too tired to do so. Therefore, by posting this disclaimer, I am absolved of any and all errors, grammatical and spelling. HA!

Pictures from the last month

I have a million pictures from the last month to share, but it's probably best to view them on Flickr. Yes, it's the easy way out to just post links.

Dragon*Con - My first experience with Dragon*Con. This was David's 9th year going, and I've heard him talk about it for years. Before going, I was a bit worried that I wouldn't find anything there that interested me, since it's mostly SciFi, anime and fantasy....but OMG there ended up being more interesting things to do and see than hours in the day. I'm looking forward to going next year, too!

Professor Sprout Costume - Costumes are Dragon*Con are quite popular, and I had decided a long time ago that I wanted to bring a costume. It took a really long time to decide what I wanted to wear, and I ended up making a Professor Sprout (from Harry Potter) costume...with the help from my mom and her friend. Since I'm all about posting links tonight, I posted all about the costume on my Adventures in Quilting Blog.

JDRF Walk - This year was the second year I've walked in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes. This year David went with me!

I really need to make some changes to the list to take out some things that no longer interest me and add items that I'd rather do. Everytime I start looking at the list, it starts to overwhelm me or I get sidetracked in researching something I'm going to trade.

So instead of worrying about editing the list tonight, I'll just update with the list items that I have completed or show the progress that I am making in other items.

The main thing is to remember that I have NOT given up on completeing all 101 Things on the list! It's always in the back of my head, even when I am not actively working on it or keeping it up to date here.

Start Date: Thursday, January 24, 2008
Goal Date: Thursday, October 21, 2010
Items Complete to Date: 36
Italics = Currently working / already started
Strike = Completed
The Complete List

8. Post a picture a week (?/143) - I take pictures all the time still, mostly with my Blackberry camera, but they're pictures nonetheless. I think I can probably make a post of nothing but pictures that I have taken, but mostly I upload them to my Flickr. I'll have to take a day (or ten) to go through my Flickr account and see how many I have. Add me to Flickr, if you have an account there! Besides, uploading the bazillion pictures to Flickr also helps me keep up with what 101 Things I have completed and when I completed them!

12. Take a photography class - I still want to do this one. I go back and forth between wanting to take it off because I can't find anything to leaving it on in hopes that I will eventually! If anyone has any ideas of where I can find a class to take to learn photo-taking skills, then pass me the information. I found a couple of people on Craigslist who posted offering Photography Lessons, so maybe something there will pan out.

16. Get enough Southwest credit for a free flight - I was SOOOOO close to having this one. I think I had 11 or 13 flights, and you have to have 16. Well, 4 of those flights fell off this past spring, but I added 2 more with the Vegas trip. I've got more falling off later this year before I'll be flying again, so it's looking like I won't be able to complete this one. I'll probably end up changing this one. David cashed in 2 free flights for our Detroit trip the week before last, but those were HIS credits, not mine. That doesn't exactly count.

27. Watch at least 101 movies that I have never seen (63/101) - I keep up with these through a Facebook app called LivingSocial Movies. I could make a whole list of all the movies I've watched, but that would probably be boring. I'll do it when I've watched 101 movies total.

50. Don't cut my hair and donate it to Locks of Love (IF it actually grows enough!) - It's been MANY years since I let my hair grow out this long, but it's still growing! I've done my best to keep it healthy by getting it trimmed when split ends start to show. I was straightening it for awhile, but then summer hit, and I'm just lazy and pull it up most of the time. I took this picture tonight to show the progress. Do you know how hard it is to take a picture of your back in the bathroom mirror?!?! The first picture is how long my hair was when I first started this list in January 2008, the second is from a year ago in July 2008, the third is from December 2008 and the fourth is the bathroom mirror picture from tonight. So that's almost an update of the progress every 6 months. I can see a lot of difference between the first two and the last two, but not so much with the middle two.

51. <strike>Volunteer at least 5 times for 5 different organizations (5/5)</strike> - Finally one that I have completed! The last time I updated, I had only completed 2 (JDRF Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes on 9/20/08 and Children's Festival with the Bethlehem Center on 10/4/08). Since then I have volunteered with the Special Olympics on 4/9/09 and I am currently a Big Sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee as of 5/4/09. The final item I forgot to take a picture, but I donated some DVDs and CDs to a local National Guard unit in Afghanistan on 5/10/09 through a drop box at work. For privacy, I am not posting a picture of my Little Sister.

52. <strike>Get my A1c numbers to at least 7</strike> - As of 6/22/09 my A1c is at exactly 7.0. The doctor's goal is 6.5, so I still have a bit to go, but 7.0 is meeting MY goal!

53. <strike>Get a professional massage</strike> - So you're not going to get a picture of me during the massage, but this was taken right before my massage. Mom and I went to High-Tech Institute and got massages from students finishing their final required hours before certification. My Blackberry says the picture was taken on 11/10/08, but I was pretty sure that we went on a Friday. Oh, well...it's close enough!

86. <strike>Eat at a Hard Rock Cafe</strike> - Since I was a pre-teen, I have been fascinated with The Hard Rock Cafe. Of course, during the time that I was a pre-teen, the restaurants were all part of the fad of the time. I decided to add it to my 101 Things List because of that bit of nostalgia from the past and because I think the last time I had eaten there was 1995.

David and I had lunch/dinner there on New Years Day. I even had a drink in a cool glass that I got to keep! I was feeling so pre-teen again!

88. <strike>Visit California</strike> - David took me to Las Vegas this past spring, and one of the things I wanted to do while we were there was to go to the California State Line. Well, we never could find a big, "Welcome To California" sign, but just past the mall out in this big dry lake (known as Ivanpah Dry Lake) is the California State Line. This map shows "YOU ARE HERE," which is slightly over the line. Yes, it's technical, but that's what counts for this list! We're tentatively making plans to visit San Diego next year, but at least I can still mark this off my list! The second picture is me with David, Diana and Julie who went with me on the California State Line adventure.

94. <strike>Visit an amusement park</strike> - I visited Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio on 7/12/09 with David, his family and our friends.

96. See another country - I was SOOOOO close to Canada! As part of the planned trip to Detroit this month, we were going to visit Canada. However, Effective June 1, 2009, all U.S. citizens are now required to present a passport book, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document when entering the United States, where previously all we needed was a birth certificate. Well, we didn't find out in time to get our passports before going to Detroit, so hopefully we'll make it next time. The photo was taken from the plane as we were about to land. About halfway down, you can see the water that divides the US and Canada. THAT is how close I was to completing Number 96!

So that is all that I have so far. This adds 6 completed items and a few more that are In Progress. Considering that I haven't updated since November 1st of 2008, I don't know if that's much, but at least it shows that I have not given up! Next I need to work on editing the list.

Disclaimer:Pardon any spelling, grammar or typos. I tried to do a spellcheck, but it's pointing out all the html tags, and I'm too tired to go back and read it again. It took me almost 3 hours to compose this, and when I think about that, I think that's insane.

IMAX prefers Giant Robots over Magic

Dear IMAX,

I have been planning my visit to you on July 15th since before I knew that it would be July 15th that I would be visiting you. You see, five years ago, I saw Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on your ginormous screen, and from then on I planned to do my best to always see the Harry Potter movies on the IMAX screen. I saw the first two movies in the series on regular screens, and while they were awesome, my experience with the third was heightened so much so that I felt like I was in the movie. Over the years I have become more and more of a Harry Potter fan, and my excitement for each movie has grown with each release.

Then today I hear of your plans to wait 2 weeks to release Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on the IMAX screen. Why must you do this to me? I've been telling everyone for months that I will be seeing the movie on opening day or the following weekend on the IMAX screen. You crushed my spirits! What's worse is that I find out that you are delaying the release of the movie for.....Transformers? Giant Robots are my nemesis! I'm crushed doubly! Of course, this just gives me more reason to hate Giant Robots.

So I'm left with a decision now. Do I still see Harry on opening day/weekend or do I try to avoid all the spoilers that I will most likely hear by waiting 2 weeks to have the ultimate Harry Potter IMAX experience? No, the answer is not to see it on the regular screen on the 15th, then again on the IMAX screen on the 29th. I don't work that way, and we both know that the IMAX experience will not be the same if I've already seen it, even with the extra 12 minutes.

What to do?

Sincerely,
Disgruntled Giant Robot Hater

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i6c932f87e11ed33ada6600181b00bb71

P.S. The other is just more specific to quilting. If you're interested, don't forget to add it to your Blogroll and RSS Feeds.....or whatever you use to read non-LJs.
My first Nashville Rollergirls Event

Last night was the Nashville Rollergirls event that David and I went to for my birthday. When we first got there, we weren't quite sure what building we were going to at the Fairgrounds. All we knew was that it was in the Sports Arena Building. I never paid attention to the building names when I was there eating greasy State Fair food, so we decided to just follow the crowd. We ALMOST ended up at the Fishing and Turkey Expo, but luckily we saw all sorts of punk kids going toward another building. I thought we might not be wearing enough black and red to fit in, but I soon saw that the crowd of people was a very diverse mix, much like the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert I went to when I was 18. THE PLACE WAS PACKED!

When I walked in, I had a feeling I would end up seeing someone I knew, and even made a bet with myself that I would probably even know a Rollergirl...and both happened. First I saw one of the managers at Dell, but he had already walked past us when I saw him. I also saw another girl leaving, but for the life of me I can't remember what phase of my life I know her from (grade school, church, college, credit union). But the best part was that one of the Rollergirls is, in fact, someone I sorta knew in college. She wasn't one of my BFFs or anyone in my circle of friends, but she hung out in the campus gameroom where I worked.

Overall we had a great time, but Nashville didn't represent itself well in either bout. In the end, we decided that we would have rather seen The Jacksonville Rollergirls go against the Texas Rollergirls instead of our two teams against them. Each team beat each of ours by more than 100 points. It was sad. I really do want to go again, and I hope that our girls will be more equally matched the next time. Thankfully this is the only bout that is a Double Header, because I don't think my back and butt can take another Double Header on hard bleachers.

We got a few pictures. You can view them on Flickr or see them in a Slideshow.

<lj-embed id="29" />

But don't miss this AWWWW Moment!

Trader Joe's

Nashville finally got a Trader Joe's in November. David and I checked it out yesterday for the first time and picked up a few interesting things. So far we've tried these Japanese sticky rice chip thingies (David informed me that they're called "Japanese Sticky Rice Cakes") flavored with soy sauce that tasted like rice cakes with less fluff and more flavor, and Basil Rotola, which is a silceable cheese roll with basil and ham that we ate with crackers, and we also tried the Trader Joe's brand of Oreos, called Joe-Joe's! The checkout person said that if we didn't like anything that we could return it and get our money back, but so far everything has been good. David bought some paninis that he's trying at lunch today.

I have seen a few of my LJers who seem to love Trader Joe's, and I was wondering what items you have found that you like there. Has anyone tried their coffee?

Quilting

I'm not sure how I get myself into some things, but I have agreed to make a quilt over the next 12 months. My mom has gotten into quilting lately and joined some Quilt Block of the Month thing at one of the local quilting shops. I guess there's several different designs to choose from, and she's going to do them all. Each month she goes to the quilting shop and picks up the pieces for the block, and by the end of the year, we'll have 12 blocks to sew together and make the quilt. She picked out one of the more simple ones for me (since I'm a complete novice when it comes to sewing), and I'll be making a Maple Leaf Quilt. The quilting shop has even made it easy for people like me, and I'll actually be pinning the quilt pieces to paper and sewing on the lines of the paper! It's almost like paint by numbers for sewing!

I tried making a quilt once before like 10 years ago, but I didn't get very far into the process. Hopefully I won't give up on this one, because I've always wanted to say, "I MADE THAT QUILT!"

And here's a hijacked picture of what the pattern looks like. I think the colors may be similar to this, too, but I haven't seen the completed quilt, only the colors of the pieces for January block, but they're very fall-like. I'll post pictures after I'm done with my block on Thursday.

I'm thinking of editing my 101 Things List to include completing a quilt as one of my goals. We'll see how it goes Thursday before I make that change.

The Facebook Relationship Status Rock Band

The whole Facebook Relationship Status started out as a joke between David and myself after I saw en episode of The Big Bang Theory regarding the subject. Then we've had all these problems with some people who view David's Facebook sees that he's in a relationship, but it doesn't have my name. So David thought the best name for a Rock Band band evar would be Facebook Relationship Status, and thus our Rock Band name was born.

We rocked out quite a bit today, and I gave singing a try....and liked it WAY more than I ever thought I would. Some of the songs have been a challenge on the guitar for me, but I can hit the notes singing so much better! Matthew even joined us for awhile and played Lead Guitar while David played Bass, and I sang some more.

So I created us a banner, and David turned it into an LJ icon. Unfortunately the size limit on an icon is pretty small, so some of the quality was lost, but still IT'S OUR BAND IN AN ICON! HAHAH!

And the funniest thing tonight was how I cheated an Xbox Achievement that is apparently a popular cheat. If a song is completed flawless on Expert, you earn an Xbox Achievement. Since getting an Xbox, I've been a bit obsessed with earning Achievements, and finally hit the 1000 mark today! But anyway, the popular cheat is to sing the Beastie Boy's What'cha Want song, because as long as you are constantly making SOME sort of noise, then you earn the Achievement. I tried and got 99%! I just couldn't try again, because it takes SO MUCH lung capacity to pull it off. So David had the idea of putting the mic next to my sound maker spa to make constant noise to complete the song....and it worked!

Disclaimer: This is by far NOT the best writing I have ever composed, but I feel so blah that I'm not going to edit it. Read as is! Oh, and don't forget to click on the pictures for the larger size.

I have this thing about trying to do something different for New Years Eve every year. This year David and I celebrated by having dinner at a restaurant I've wanted to go to since I was a kid, New Orleans Manor. The food was pretty good and rather pricey, but it was a (most likely) once in a lifetime experience for me. I had the Shrimp Imperial and David had the Jambalaya Penne Pasta. Oh, and I thought the little yellow package was a gift, but then David points out that it's a lemon in a bag. I'm SO not educated in the ways of fine dining!

And for the New Year, I got sick. YAY! I've got the cold that everyone I know has already had for the last few weeks. It was inevitable that I would get it eventually. So far it's not really too bad. Mostly I feel achey, and I've been sneezing. My Dad hooked me up with some Allegra D, so that's keeping my nose clear, though I can still feel some junk in my head. What's really weird is that I'm WAY tired, but when I tried to take a nap, I kept waking up with this wide awake feeling. I guess that's the decongestant talking.

For New Year's Day, David and I went to see The Spirit. The movie was okay, but the best part about it was that it was a bit on the different side. Lately I've been bored with movies that are just like all other genre movies with a few changes. I like movies that are daring and mix it up a bit. They sorta left it open for a sequel, but I'm not so sure it will happen.

After the movies, we had lunch/dinner at The Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville. I've only eaten at the one in Nashville once way back in 1995, and I got a Gift Card from work, and besides it's on my 101 Things list! I decided to go all out and get a fruity girlie drink in a souvenir glass. I wish I had thought to take a picture of my fancy schmancy drink. I wish I had taken the opportunity to walk around and look at some of the memorabilia, but my cold was really starting to ramp up about the time that we were there, so sitting at the table seemed to be the best idea at the time.

Then today I broke up with David on Facebook but only to fix some odd anomalies that were happening on David's side. For some reason, ever since we changed our status on Facebook, most of his friends don't see my profile linked to his in the relationship area. We thought it would eventually work itself out, but after a few weeks it still hadn't. David thought that the only way to fix it was to "break up" on Facebook and change the status again. We decided to try to do it really quick so people wouldn't think the worst. giselc</lj>was Quick Draw McGraw and was texting my cell phone within seconds of the "break up." It was very funny, but apparently it's still not fixed completely. We've given up fixing it (for now).

For all you Facebook junkies or cynics, check out this video as seen on The IT Crowd.

<lj-embed id="28" />

The mouse saga continues

I've caught 2 more mice! I swear, I thought there was just one, but they're either coming in one at a time or they had me fooled.

This morning I checked the traps again, and now the little boogers are eating the peanut butter off the traps! I refilled and reset them extra sensitive so that just barely touching them would set them off. This of course got my heart racing because I had to set them a couple of times to get them to stay.

So I'm sitting in my recliner, and I hear the scratching sound. I went and rattled the cabinets, and he stopped just long enough for me to go sit down again. I followed the sound, and it was coming from the top of this pantry cabinet thingie I have. I thought he was in the pretzel bag, but he was in another bag that just had a coffee mug in it. I picked up the coffee mug (still in the bag), expecting him to run out or something. But he was still in the bag! I kept walking outside with it and knocked on my parent's door showing them my new roommate! I put the whole bag and coffee mug in an old ice cream bucket and closed the lid. I CAUGHT A LIVE MOUSE! I'll spare you the details as to what my dad did, but let's just say that the mouse was not released alive.

Then tonight just a few minutes ago, my extra-sensitive trap caught another one! I've caught 4 now! I just hope they'll give up now, because this is getting old. My mom laughed when I bought 2 packs of 4 traps, but I don't re-use the traps, and one fell behind the oven, so I'm down to just 3 now.

ETA: A few minutes after completing this post, Mouse #5 set off the trap, and he's dead, too. I know it sounds sadistic, but I enjoyed watching that one die. My mom has been having me tie them up in plastic grocery bags and put them on the trunk of my dad's car for him to dispose. What a way to start his day!

So I heard another scratching sound the day after Mouse1 was caught. I was determined to get this one, too, so I set a couple more traps. Oh, this mouse was S-M-A-R-T! He started stealing all the cheese off the traps. I put more cheese on them last night, and they were gone again today. Out with the peanut butter!

I got home and didn't smell the scent of death but thought to check them, anyway. BAM! I got me another one! YAY!

I would dare another to try, but really I hope no more come in.
